Silent Snapshots

Melissa Crytzer Fry

As we close out another year, I leave you with snapshots taken around the ranch (click on any photo to enlarge).

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and an adventurous New Year! I’m looking forward to sharing what I see in the desert during 2015.

Bobcat watching javelina walking through a mining tube on our property.

Hey lady — am I going to get to see you this year? Maybe next! (Did you like the big kitty stalking the little piggies?) πŸ˜‰

Great photos! Is that just a coyote or a Mexican wolf? It seems too big to be a coyote.

I had the same reaction as you, Sue, when I saw that image – and uttered the same words to my husband.

You’ve inspired me to check with some local wildlife folks just to be sure that IS a coyote (the Mexican grays that were reintroduced were waaay far north of us, so I’m doubtful. But who knows? I’d LOVE to hear wolf howls at night)! And you’re right — that’s a big canine with a very bushy tail!

Melissa, these are stunning! Your photos keep getting better and better. Have you thought about trying to publish them in some sort of coffee table book or calendar or something? I don’t know much about photography, but these seem on par with all of the professional shots I see around. I adore that one of your kitty in the window. πŸ™‚ I hope you and yours have happy holidays!

You are way too kind, Annie. You know, with my Mac, I could make myself a nice little coffee table book for sure. In fact, my hubby did that with my photos and gave it to his mom for Christmas!

Thanks for tweeting this post, too. Hope your X-mas eve, day, and new year shape up to be just what you wanted, my friend! Good things are coming your way!

I never get tired of looking at your desert photos, Melissa. πŸ™‚ Sweet, sweet kitties.

Is that a coyote in the second shot? What a beautiful animal. Do you ever catch a glimpse in the daylight?

    Happy Holidays!

I believe it is a coyote, but as others have commented, it looks rather large (and the optimist/nature nerd is me WANTS it to be a Mexican gray wolf since they’re working on repopulating the norther part of the state with the once-prolific animal). Nonetheless, he is gorgeous, I agree. I haven’t seen THIS fella in daylight, but have seen others. They really are beautiful with reddish coats.
